When I step inside the gate, I am welcomed by two very friendly dogs, which names I forgot to ask. In the second floor, Paulo Vitor Machado, bassist of brazilian stoner doom band Ruínas de Sade (“Sade’s ruins”, in english), waves at me and light one more cigarette. It’s the third pack of this week. When he was smoking the first or second, his band released it’s self-titlede debut, composed of three songs that goes around ten minutes each. Literature is there everywhere.

After 12 discs in one year, Monolith releases Murk

Art by Monolith

Monolith keeps being colossal, this time with an EP composed by a single twenty minutes track. It’s their most intense and aggressive offer by now, in the same outfit of the previous releases. Art of Cortland’s (NY) band is a musically expression of regular guys who wishes to smash heads with a hammer.

One is a welder and the other is a teacher and works at a YMCA. In a year, they have accumulated an astonishing quantity of material and have more waiting to see sunlight. Murk is the first act as a trio. It was released just today (23).

Introspective black metal in Serena, new Gray Souvenirs’ album

Black metal and poetry hardly goes side by side. The scandinavian musicians have their own aesthetic in their satanistic and extremist music and personality, of course, but I refer to the most banal meaning of “poetry”. “Poetic”, as something beautiful and pleasant to ears or soul, can’t describe Gray Souvenirs. It is a brazilian representant of a modern variation of black metal, which incorporates the introspection of shoegaze to spread emotions in those 144p recorded sounds.

Serena is their new full lenght, released in March 6th. Gray Souvenirs is composed of Putrefactus (look, our first reference to oldschool black metal), who composes and plays all the instruments. An analysis of the name reveal important traits of his music: gray is about the “colour of the cities” and souvenirs is a homage to Alcest, french band of a genre called blackgaze.

Reflexive and sentimental debut of Erudite Stoner

Erudite and stoner are words generally not related. It’s a proposital paradox that defines brazilian violonist Erudite Stoner. He brings two opposite sides to the same album, with balance and harmony. Instrumental parts are filled with sadness and hope, horror and joy, minimalism and complexity. All at the same time.

During the 34 minutes of this self titled, we are accompained only by the guitar of Matheus Novaes, the Erudite Stoner. He is responsible for composition and execution of the whole album. Release took place in 2015 and is his first work. In his own words, tracks combine classical influences with “dark doom and minimalist post-rock to riffs of stoner rock and melancholic shoegaze”.
